Bio

Marie Percy grew up in sunny Florida and began her movement career as a dedicated competitive gymnast. She competed for twelve years winning hundreds of awards. Her gymnastics career culminated with being the Level 9 Floor State Champion in 2004 and qualifying for two trips to the Eastern National Championships where in 2005 she placed 2nd on Floor. Marie found her way into theater by performing stage combat and stunts  at a local renaissance fair after retiring from competitive gymnastics, and she has been committed to theater and movement studies every since.

Marie received a BA in Theater from the University of Florida with a Minor in Mathematics and went on to study Theater Pedagogy, Movement, and Choreography at Virginia Commonwealth University where she earned her MFA. While finishing her MFA she began studying Laban Movement Studies at the Institute for Laban/Bartenieff Movement Studies in New York City, and now holds the title of Certified Movement Analyst (CMA). She has also become a Registered Yoga Teacher with Yoga Alliance after doing her 200 hour training at Samadhi Yoga Studio under Anne Falkowski. Most recently she attended Intimacy Directors International’s (IDI) first ever choreographer’s intensive where she completed over 60 hours of training in choreographing intimacy with Tonia Sina, Alicia Rodis, and Claire Warden. She is now a Certified Intimacy Director with IDI. She is a member of Yoga Alliance, the Association of Theater Movement Educators, the American Association of University Professors, and Intimacy Directors International.

Marie’s formal and informal training has exposed her to a wide variety of movement modalities. She has extensive training in movement pedagogy for actors, choreography and musical story telling, Intimacy for the Stage, Laban movement analysis, gymnastics, Bartenieff Fundamentals, Growtowski, and yoga. She has experience with stage combat, stunts, contact improvisation, aerial dance, and circus arts. She has dabbled with mime, clowning,  and Activated Isolated Stretching.

Marie is currently leveraging all of her talents and interests at the University of Connecticut where she is an Assistant Professor in Residence teaching Movement for Actors in the BFA and MFA actor training programs. Her students have been seen Off-Broadway, in National Commercials, on Cruises, and in Regional Theaters across the country.

Marie has worked as an intimacy director, dance choreographer, fight director, and movement coach at both University theaters and Regional theaters. Her credits include: Eurydice (Movement Director, Connecticut Repertory Theater (CRT)), Twelfth Night (Movement Coach, Fight Choreographer, CRT), Mother Courage (Movement Consultant, Arena Stage), Big Love (Fight/Dance Choreographer, CRT), Godspell (Choreographer, The Prizery), The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee (Choreographer, Theater VCU), White Christmas (Assistant Choreographer, Barksdale Theater), Peter and the Wolf (Assistant Choreographer, Imagination Stage). Recently Marie has also branched into the visual arts using her knowledge of movement analysis to create dance inspired art pieces.
