I painted this a couple of months ago. The design is based on the volutes of the A-scale. I drew three rectangles to represent the three planes in the Icosahedron (vertical, sagittal, and horizontal). I then marked where the corners were on my circle. The I gently sketched one volute at a time, and I closed it off turning it into a three ring. For example one of the rings in the image goes from right-high to back-low to forward-left to right-high. Each three ring is painted the same color as its opposing volute three ring from the second half of the scale, so you can see the inverted symmetry that is present in the A-Scale.
